PHOTO GALLERY: POT-IN-POT

These images were taken in our pot-in-pot growing area. In 2002, we buried 1100 of Nursery Supplies' Aboveground (AGS) sockets in wood mulch. We now have more than 3500 sockets for PIP production. The AGS system from Nursery Supplies is used to grow many of our shade trees. We believe this system also deserves consideration in a retail setting for the efficient display and maintenance of caliper trees. Container growing & pot-in-pot provide these benefits:

  • Insulates the root zone from extreme temperature variations.
  • Allows in-place over-wintering.
  • Decreases production time from liner to finished product.
  • Reduces water usage with trickle irrigation.
  • Eliminates the need for staking to prevent blow over.
  • Reduces labour cost associated with in-field harvesting.
  • Prevents root loss associated with in-field harvesting.

In total, more than 15,000 quality trees are grown in 5, 7, 10 and 15 gallon containers every summer at Jeffries Nurseries Ltd.
