NORTHERN GEM  ASH

  • Botanical name: Fraxinus x 'Northern Gem'

  • Origin: A breakthrough in Ash breeding which combines the native Black Ash with the Manchurian Ash. Cross made by Dr. Wilbert Ronald at the Morden Research Station in 1969.

  • Hardiness: Zone 2 (Canadian and USDA)

  • Growth Rate: Vigorous; final size: 50' x 40'.

  • Description: Seedless. Mature trees have a broad oval shape. Northern Gem is hardy and disease resistant.

  • Landscape Value: Excellent shade tree in residential, downtown and commercial plantings, particularly where outstanding foliage is required.
